Campaign, Advocacy and Lobbying
Campaign, Advocacy Lobbying and Lobbying(CAL) promotes development and institutional transformation through campaign, advocacy and capacity building to address the policies on food security and land-use. This is so to fight oppressed and exploitive policies. and proctices to achieve alleviation and sustainable programme therefore aim to develop and streghthen capacity of members of the network. The key areas of advocacy strategies are:
- Fair Trade Issues: PELUM undertakes to advocate for fair trade to enable smallerholder farmers effectively participate in the market.
- Government Budget to the agriculture sector: since 2005, PELUM has been advocating for governments to increase funding to the agriculture sector,as per maputo declaration of 2003. It is hoped that once funding tho agriculture sector is increased, expenditure towards improving smallerholder farmers livelihoods may also increase.
- Promoting Sustainable Agriculture: Since its inception, PELUM has been promoting the use of sustainable methods of farming and preservation of the natural resource. PELUM's work is grounded in its recognition of the weakly tapped potential of indigeneous knowledge, farminf and cropping patterns.
