Our Partners

PELUM underlines the importance of fighting poverty and extreme hunger as global challenges. It has thus continued to link up with several other regional and global partners as a way of harmonizing its efforts and realizing shared impacts.
Currently PELUM is implementing a three year strategic plan (2009 -2011). Three funding partners have committed 60% of the funding requirements in the plan. They include Oxfam Novib, Bread for the World and Misereor.

CTA :PELUM has also continued to partner with the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) in ensuring dissemination of agricultural information. Through this partnership, PELUM has participated in several continental and international fora including the World Congress for Rural Women in 2008, CAADP Day under the African Union in 2009 and European Development Days in 2008 and 2009

GRASP:PELUM furthered its role of building a global fraternity by taking part in the Global and Regional Advocacy for Small producers; (GRASP) initiative. Through this initiative, CSOs from across the continent together with CORDAID and the Centre for Concern from Europe and the US respectively, are working together to constantly show how evolving unfavorable policies further disadvantage small holder producers.

IFOAM: PELUM has also continued to be a contact point as well as a member of IFOAM; Through this partnership, PELUM has continued to recognize the importance of organic agriculture in responding to food insecurity as opposed to the excessive use of inorganic fertilizers in agricultural production.

Panos Institute of Southern Africa: PELUM is also partnering with Panos Institute of Southern Africa in the production of its regional magazine GroundUP. An MOU was first signed in 2007 and was renewed in 2009 for another two years.

PROLINNOVA: PELUM has continued to contribute and learn from the Promotion of Local Innovations (PROLINNOVA) an international NGO-initiated programme to build a global learning network to promote local innovation in ecologically-oriented agriculture and NRM. The programme builds on and scales up farmer-led approaches to development that start with finding out how farmers do informal experiments to develop and test new ideas for better use of natural resources.

RAEIN-Africa: PELUM has forged a new partnership with the Regional Agricultural and Environment Initiatives Network, RAEIN-Africa; Through this partnership, PELUM hopes to benefit from the various socioeconomic research studies that are being undertaken in the region.; It is currently acting as the support national contact institution in Zambia.

Research into Use (RIU): PELUM Asssociation forged its partnership with the DFID funded Research Into Use Programme in 2008.  Since then, the two organisation have taken their partnership to a higher level. The Zambia RIU Country Office is hosted by the PELUM Association Regional Offcie in Lusaka, Zambia; The two have also mutually benefited from each other in terms of networking and information sharing. RIU is primarily a research project working to scale up the use of research outputs among small scale farmers, and in doing so, learning from this process to inform stakeholders including policy makers and cooperating partners.

World Rural Forum (WRF):In partnership with the WRF, PELUM is spearheading (in east, central and southern Africa) the campaign for the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF). The declaration of the IYFF will direct attention to family farming as an authentic model for real farming development, directed to the service of humanity through the commitment of millions of men and women producing harvests sufficient to feed the world. More information on the family farming campaign can be found on: http://www.familyfarmingcampaign.net
