COMMUNICATION,
INFORMATION SIFTING AND DISSEMINATION
The overall goal of the programme is to
enhance the culture of communication, information sifting and
purposeful use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) within
the Association. The programme promotes networking, connecting and sharing
experiences among PELUM members, partners and the communities we serve. This
involves sifting and dissemination of demand-driven information within the
association and beyond. This also ensures maintaining access to databases
that bring together the wealth of information resources within and outside
the network.
Key Strategies:
Our
Communication Strategy is geared towards
fostering networking, linkages and sharing of experiences amongst the
membership and development organisations in the region. We also link with
partners and the communities we serve, particularly the small scale farming
communities.
We do the following:
-
Information sifting and dissemination
within and outside the association.
-
Produce a regional magazine,
GroundUp. It is an
avenue by which members of the Association share information and
experiences amongst themselves and other like-minded individuals as well
as institutions and the communities PELUM members serves.
-
An in-house publication called the
PELUM
Bulletin, which keeps the members informed about PELUM events, people
and current issues that are of interest to members.
-
Maintenance, at the regional secretariat,
of a well-stocked and fully operative
Resource centre and up-to-date
database accessible physically and (for some materials) through the
PELUM website. The Resource Centre is also growing into a place of facilitating
the coordination of the wealth of past, present and future research
carried out within and outside the network.
-
Launched in 2001 and re-launched in 2005,
the website acts as a forum for constant interaction and exchange of
views and information amongst members and like-minded organisations,
networks and individuals. It furthermore works to provide a resource for
various information materials, both about pelum and links to relevant
resource locations world-wide for that keen researcher and members of
the public. Links are also provided to already established PELUM member
country web sites.
-
Capacity building through information
skills- based training workshops aimed at enhancing information
management capabilities of member organisations of the network.
-
Capacity building of the media in the
region in sustainable agriculture and natural resource management.
-
Providing referral service to information
resources and practical opportunities.
