Part of our effort to improve the livelihoods of small-scale farmers includes working to increase their food security.
Food security is achieved when all people, at all times, have the money and the means to access sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.
We have been working to improve food security for years, often connected with promoting traditional foods. At a regional level, several years ago we produced a manual Seed Security for Food Security and more recently we published a booklet on traditional Zambian foods (572 KB pdf). Our country desks are very active in this area, particularly PELUM Kenya and PELUM Uganda.
