PELUM Rwanda was set up in 2003 and has 7 members. It is hosted by RWARRI. So far:
- A Board was elected and the Chairman is John Bideri from RWARRI
- A country desk coordinator was employed to provide a boost of energy and pace to PELUM
- An action plan was developed for the development of PELUM-Rwanda until September 2005
- Constitution was developed in English, ratified by the Regional Board during the Board meeting in Lesotho. Funds to engage a lawyer to translate and work on the Constitution in Kinyarwanda (the Constitution must be submitted in both languages) are being sourced.
- Some funds for a tree planting project have since been sourced and the work begin soon.
PELUM Rwanda has also planned for the following projects:
i) Nyamata School- to provide the expertise to set up the first ever Secondary Level Agriculture curriculum in Rwanda ii) HIV/AIDS Nutrition Gardens- to work with an HIV/AIDS organisation in one of the districts to provide training on production of crops integral to good diet for HIV/AIDS sufferers iii) Set up a Seed Bank
